In India people honor this special bond between brothers and sisters at Bhai Dooj. After Raksha Bandhan, it’s the most important festival dedicated to siblings. Both Rakshabandhan and Bhai Dooj are meant for intensifying and securing the bonds between brothers and sisters. The major difference is that on Bhai Dooj, it is the sisters present gifts to their brothers.
Bhai Dooj is a popular festival of India and it is celebrated all across the country with lots of fun and excitement. The festival is marked by many traditional rites and customs which have been passed down through the generations. On the day of the festival, sisters perform a Puja ceremony for their brothers and seek the blessing of the gods. The Bhai Dooj Puja thali is usually filled with sweets, incense and tilak. They then put a tilak on the foreheads of the brothers to ensure their well-being and prosperity. It is also the tradition for the sisters to exchange to exchange Bhai Dooj gifts with their brothers. The Bhai Dooj gifts are symbolic of the love and affection the sisters have for their brothers and they are meant to preserve and further intensify their relationship.
